Cookie Policy
A clear guide to cookies and browser storage on Newsut. Last updated: 5 November 2026.
What cookies are
Cookies are small pieces of information stored by a browser when a website is used. Newsut also uses local browser storage for optional reading preferences. Local storage is similar to cookies, but is managed separately by your browser.
Essential session cookie
Newsut uses a first-party session cookie named NEWSUTSESSID. It supports secure sessions, contact-form verification, request limits and administrator login. It is configured as HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax, with the Secure attribute when the website is accessed over HTTPS. It is designed to expire at the end of the browser session, although browser behavior can vary.
If you block this cookie, features that rely on sessions, including forms or admin login, may not work correctly.
Local storage for reading preferences
The browser storage key gh-theme remembers a light or dark appearance choice. The key gh-saved stores the article titles and identifiers of stories you choose to bookmark. These are stored in your browser, rather than in a reader account on our website.
These preferences may remain until you clear the website's local storage. Clearing local data removes locally saved stories and resets the theme preference on that browser.
External resources and optional analytics
The site may load fonts and icon stylesheets from external providers. Your browser may connect directly to those providers, and their own technologies and privacy terms may apply.
Google Analytics or advertising services are not required for the core publishing features. If additional analytics or advertising tags are enabled on the website, they may use cookies or similar technologies. Where consent is required, those services must be configured to respect applicable consent requirements. This policy does not itself provide a consent mechanism.
How to manage cookies
You can view, delete or block cookies and site storage using the privacy or site-data settings in your browser. Some browsers also offer controls for third-party cookies. Blocking essential cookies may prevent forms and sign-in from working.
